Possible 2010 Sleeper Teams that could make the Playoffs

by on 03/24/2010 in MLB News

There’s always one team no one expects to be any where close to a playoff berth, but that was different for the Tampa Bay Rays back in 2008 when they surprised all of baseball. The Rays finished that year with 97 wins and 65 losses and made it to the World Series, but lost in 5 games against the Phillies.

Who will be the 2010 sleeper team? There are a couple of teams that could be Cinderella stories and these are not obvious picks by any stretch of the imagination.

It’s easier to rule out what teams will not make the post season, so here we go:

American LeagueBaltimore OriolesToronto Blue JaysTampa Bay RaysChicago White SoxCleveland IndiansKansas City RoyalsOakland Athletics

National League: Florida MarlinsWashington NationalsCincinnati RedsHouston AstrosMilwaukee BrewersPittsburgh PiratesArizona DiamondbacksSan Diego Padres

There are not many teams left and if you add the teams who should make the playoffs, you would have:

New York YankeesBoston Red SoxMinnesota TwinsSeattle Mariners

Philadelphia PhilliesSt. Louis CardinalsColorado RockiesLos Angeles Dodgers

Possible 2010 Sleeper Teams that could make the playoffs:

Detroit TigersTexas RangersAtlanta BravesNew York MetsChicago CubsSan Francisco Giants

Out of this group of sleepers I would give the New York Mets the nod, but you never know how things can pan out during a grueling 162 game season.

What are your sleeper teams?

The Mets would be my sleeper pick as well, but most of all I am hoping my Boys in Blue take the NL West.

A pretty fair assessment. If the Mets make it they would be a wild card team. The Giants may give the Dodgers a run for their money in the relatively weak NL West. The Twins could have some problem without their closer.

Could be a Yankees-Phillies rematch in the Series.

    Mike,

I was thinking the same. If the Mets stay healthy they have a chance.

I so hope that you are right about the Mets. It really gets depressing going so many years in between waiting for the Mets to finally get to the postseason again.

you do realize you’ve included the padres twice in teams that definitely won’t make it from the NL. They’re bad but is including them twice really necessary?
As a result you’ve forgot to mention LAA who surely have to be in with a chance

Did I? Wow, that was my oversight. Thank you.
