Here Come the Bosox!

Clay BuchholzIts been a slow start for the Red Sox in 2010 and for a few reasons. They had to deal with another slow start from David Ortiz, but that has changed as Big Papi has been on fire in May. Ortiz has 8 homers in May compared to 1 he hit all in April. Josh Beckett hasn’t been effective so far this year with an ERA of 7.39. Daisuke Matsuzaka who also started slow and was on the DL is starting to show his true form.

The Red Sox (25-21) have woke up and just in time as the Tampa Rays are starting to run away with the AL East. The Yankees (26-18) are dealing with the injury bug and haven’t played well as of late. The Red Sox beat the Rays 6-1 last night with help from Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz who both homered.

Youkilis, who is batting .400 (12 for 30) with five homers and 12 RBIs over his past nine games, made it 6-0 with a two-run shot in the fourth.

The Red Sox climbed a season-best four games over .500 (25-21) with their third straight win on a difficult road trip that began in Philadelphia.

Boston starter Clay Buchholz (6-3) won his eighth consecutive road start dating to last August. He allowed one run—Carlos Pena’s homer—over six innings.

If the Red Sox can continue to stay hot, it could be a three way race in the AL East, but don’t forget about the Blue Jays.
