You may have heard talk from your grandfather about the great Western League, then perhaps your Dad talked about the American League, but you of course favor the Boston Red Sox.

Well you all have something in common because all of these teams are one and the same, and simply went through two name changes. You all can be proud of this league, starting from their first pennant win of 1903. The victory of 1903 was short lived by the Boston Red Socks when they hit 1906 and went into a real slump. With some hard work and perseverance though, they pulled themselves out of the hole by bringing in new players ready for action.

The Boston Red Sox are not known for defeat, and battling their way back into third place and then topping this off with the 1912 pennant win proved this to be the case.

Then came the famous signing of Babe Ruth. That all star baseball icon made his mark when he joined the Boston Red Sox, and relished in the moments of the Sox being on top once again. Babe Ruth’s instigating disciplinary problems may have been the cause of him being traded to the New York Yankees in 1918, but there was a rumor going around the real reason of the sale was to generate funds to support an upcoming Broadway play.

Ted Williams joining the Boston Red Sox was a great event, but didn’t turn out to be such a blessing as was anticipated. Ted was not able to perform to his max because of an injury, and then ended up spending two terms in the armed forces and missing five full seasons of baseball.

The win of the World Series in 1918 meant a victory that would be cherished for many years for there were not many to follow for the Boston Red Sox for a good few years.

So in summary, when they were known as the Boston Americans during 1901-1907 this league had 1 playoff appearance, won 2 pennants, and 1 world championship. With their name change to the Boston Red Sox from 1908-now, their record consists of 19 playoff appearances, 10 pennants and 6 world championships.

Long-term security is definitely not something you would expect being offered, especially in the MLB, where it is an absolute chaos when it comes to judging players by their performance. With this being said, you would find one player making a difference big time – Dusting Pedroia!

In all of two seasons, Pedroia has impressed the Boston Red Sox management that the Boston Red Sox have already offered him the golden handshake. The only difference here is that Pedroia is offered the handshake by the Boston Red Sox and also asked him to stay with them. How is that for a deal?

On Wednesday, the Boston Red Sox and Pedroia reached a deal that is sure to set enough tongues wagging. Sample this for a deal – Six years of stay with the Boston Red Sox for a total contract value of $40.5 Million. Add this to the fact that the deal has an add-on of $11 Million for a seventh year stay? A total deal value of about $50 Million and a security of 7 years, irrespective of performance! How is that for security?

Boston Red Sox seem to be absolutely thrilled at this investment. Clearly, they are looking at it from only one angle – If a player can impress in his first two seasons at the MLB, and that in a competitive arena, he surely has something in him. Investing in him for a long term would thus not seem to be a bad strategy after all. The only catch though is – What if the player fails to meet the expectations for some time in a row?

This seems to be one voice of the critics of this decision of Boston Red Sox. Clearly, they seem to be non-plussed about the fact that the management of Boston Red Sox can predict a player’s performance over the next some years. What if the player suffers from injury during this time? What if the player’s performance dips with time? These questions definitely would have been uncomfortable ones for Boston Red Sox management to answer them!

But I guess all the thinking would have gone back to the drawing room when the management of Boston Red Sox would take off the score sheets and read them. Clearly they could not afford their MVP to move anywhere else in any state. In such a backdrop, you would find the decision of Boston Red Sox vindicated.

And well, as we prepare for another season of MLB, everyone is closely watching the Boston Red Sox games with great interest. People want to know if the deal has created some kind of distraction in Pedroia. Is he as equal minded as before? Will he be able to roll on match winning performances time and again?

For now, these questions seem to be unanswered but one thing is for sure. You cannot rule out 100% effort and perspiration into Pedroia’s efforts.

The history of the Boston Red Sox is rich with lore. They were the reigning 2007 World Series Champions and this came after a very long dry spell with no World Series wins. The Boston Red Sox are one of the oldest teams in the league and have made their team home since 1912 at Fenway Park, sometimes called “The Fens”.

This history of the Boston Red Sox name comes from the uniform feature of red around the sock area of the uniform. No matter which uniform the team is wearing, home or away or an alternate – the sock area is always red.

The Boston Red Sox club was actually formed in 1901, they were the team to beat and beat they did of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first World Series in 1903. They went on to win four more championships by 1918, and then went into one of the longest periods without a win in baseball history. Many people attributed their inability to win to the “Curse of the Bambino” that was said to have been caused by the trade of Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees in 1920. That curse was reversed in 2004, when the Boston Red Sox finally won and brought home their sixth World
Series Championship.

The late 1920′s to early 1930′s were not a good time for the Boston Red Sox, who managed to average over 100 loses in a season. In 1933, the luck of the team began looking up when Tom Yawkey bought the Red Sox and acquired some strong players. These wise player additions paid off and the Red Sox were again strong competitors in the League.

For the next 30 years, the Boston Red Sox would continue their pursuit of the World Series win just falling short. Ted Williams, considered one of the greatest hitters of all time lent his talents to the time and some people started calling the team “The TedSox”. Ted went on to write a book, “The Science of Hitting” that is still used to present day by up and coming baseball players.

The 1960′s didn’t start well for the Boston Red Sox, however 1967 brought a furious and exciting pennant race. The 1970′s brought a new uniform look when the team began to wear a red hat with a navy blue B and a navy blue brim. The new look didn’t help the team win and they never
finished higher than second in their division.

After longtime owner Tom Yawkey passed away in 1976, his wife Jean oversaw control of the Boston Red Sox until her own passing 1992. The Boston Red Sox never won a single world series in the longtime ownership of the Yawkey’s.

In 2004, the team made it to another world series and this one started poorly with injured players and closely scored games. However, in their series match up again the Cardinals, the Boston Red Sox broke the “Curse of the Bambino” and brought home a world series back to Boston. A surreal touch many people considered an omen of good luck was the total lunar eclipse that occurred during game 4. The moon was colored red over Busch Stadium and the Red Sox won the game about 10 minutes before the eclipse ended.

Just to prove the “Curse of the Bambino” was just another part of Boston Red Sox history, the team went on to win the 2007 World Series against the Colorado Rockies. Ensuring the Boston Red Sox continued reputation as one of the greatest teams in MLB history.

The Boston Red Sox are a Major League Baseball franchise. They are competing in the Eastern Division of the American League. Opened on April 20, 1912, their home stadium, Fenway Park, is the oldest major league ballpark still in operation.. The Red Sox has the honor of winning the first World Series as the Boston Americans in 1903 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. After an 86-year interval, they were able to record their most recent World Series championship win in 2004.

The Red Sox chief rival is the New York Yankees (http://www.ticketnest.com/sports-tickets/New-York-Yankees/index.php). The two clubs “enjoy” one of the longest-standing rivalries in North American sports.

The minor Western League declared its equality with the National League under Ban Johnson in 1900. It was the only major league then. The name of the league was changed to the American League by Johnson. Initially the team was competing in the streets. However, the upstart placed franchises in two of the largest and most important National League cities, Philadelphia and Boston.

The Americans participated in the first modern World Series in 1903. They were successful in beating the favored Pittsburgh Pirates, winning five games to three. The Americans, aided by the modified chants of “Tessie” by the Royal Rooters fan club and by its stronger pitching staff, managed to overcome the odds, winning the first ever World Series.

The Red Sox logo used in 1908, when they were simply known as “Boston”.The 1904 club was almost as good as the previous team. But the Americans found themselves in a tight pennant race through the last games of the season due to the surprise emergence of the New York Highlanders. In order to win the pennant, the Highlanders needed to win both games.

The Americans lost 100 games in the 1906 season. But the newly renamed Red Sox was able to improve immediately with the help of several new star players. By 1909, Red Sox worked their way to third place and the legendary center fielder Tris Speaker had become a fixture in the Boston outfield. However, the Red Sox would not win the pennant again until their 105-win 1912 season.

Joseph Lannin was the owner of the Red Sox from 1913 to 1916. He was successful in signing Babe Ruth who was soon the best-known and one of the best players ever. The Red Sox propelled to the World Series again with another 101 wins in 1915. They were able to beat the Philadelphia Phillies four games to one. The 1916 team repeated the pennant. The Red Sox won the World Series once again. They defeated the Brooklyn Robins this time. By 1918, the team found itself at the top of the heap again, led by Babe Ruth to a World Series championship over the Chicago Cubs.

When Boston could not win for a few decades and New York achieved great success, the sale of Babe Ruth came to be viewed as the beginning of the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry. It is described as the “Greatest Rivalry on Earth”. Frazee continued to sell many of his star players after the sale of Ruth to the Yankees.

The Red Sox didn’t reach the postseason for the next seven years after the 1978 playoff game. During that period, they finished no higher than third place in their division.

In the 1986 World Series the Red Sox played the New York Mets. The Red Sox won the first two games in Shea Stadium, but lost the next two at Fenway, knotting the series at 2 games apiece. After Bruce Hurst recorded his second victory of the series in game 5; the Red Sox returned to Flushing Meadows looking to garner their first championship in 68 years. However, Game Six marked the most devastating losses in club history. Roger Clemens was curiously lifted from the game with a 3-2 lead after pitching seven strong innings.

The Red Sox were able to return to the postseason in 1988. With the club in fourth place early in the 1988 season, manager John McNamara was fired. He was replaced by Joe Morgan. Immediately the club won 12 games in a row, and 19 of 20 overall. They soured up to the AL East title in what would be referred to as Morgan’s Magic.

In 1990, the Red Sox would again win the division and face the Athletics in the ALCS. However, the A’s swept the Series in four.

In 2000, the Red Sox failed to take advantage of Nomar Garciaparra’s career year and Pedro Martinez’s historic season. Other standouts included reliever Derek Lowe and outfielders Carl Everett and Dante Bichette, but the rest of the team was weak, and the Red Sox stumbled to an 85-77 record.

GM Theo Epstein’s first major step toward restocking the team for 2007 was to pursue one of the most anticipated acquisitions in recent history. The Red Sox had won the bid for the rights to negotiate a major league contract with Japanese superstar pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka. Coming into the 2007 season the red sox have still yet to name a closer. The favorite to win the position right now is Joel Pineiro.

Fans want Red Sox tickets, come what may. Red Sox, a professional baseball team based in Boston, Massachusetts are currently the reigning World Champions. The “Red Sox” nicknamed the BoSox are one of the American League’s eight charter franchises.

The name ‘Red Sox’ refers to the red hose in the team uniform. Their club was founded in Boston in 1901. A member of the Major League and of the American League, the Fenway Park has been the team’s ballpark since 1912.

Early History

The Red Sox have an interesting history. Pittsburgh Pirates were their arch rivals in their first World Series in early 1990s. By 1918, the Red Sox won its fifth World Series. Soon after began one of the longest championship droughts in baseball history called the “Curse of the Bambino”. This is in reference to the tradeoff of Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees in 1920. Thereafter, the team’s fortunes changed only after 2004, when the team won their sixth World Series Championship.

During the 1900s, New York Highlanders were the main rivals of the Red Sox. Through this period, several players helped the newly named Red Sox recover the game. Fans bought Red Sox tickets and cheered Center fielder Tris Speaker, Duffy, Tris Speaker, Harry Hooper, Joe Wood and Lewis Smokey.

Joseph Lannin, the owner signed Babe Ruth on, who propelled the team to a winning streak of the World Series through 1915-1918. Baby Ruth was like a magnet for baseball lovers who bought Red Sox tickets to watch him play. However, in January 2, 1920, after Babe Ruth was sold to the rival New York Yankees, the “Greatest Rivalry on Earth” began. More sales of players like Schang, Harry Harper, Mike McNally Everett Scott, and Bullet Joe Bush followed leading to Red Sox’s poor show in the 1920s and 1930s. From 1925 to 1932, the only bright spot of the team was Earl Webb.

Red Sox, Tom Yawkey And Star Players

It was only after 1933 that the Red Sox saw a change in their bad fortune. Tom Yawkey bought the Red Sox and it was his for the next 70 years. Yawkey brought in Williams, one of the greatest hitters of all time. With Williams, the Red Sox reached the 1946 World Series.

The 1950s was a period of distress for the Red Sox. A decade later, year 1967 gave a fresh lease of life to the team with Yastrzemski and Tony Conigliaro, the youngest player in Major League Baseball to hit his 100th home run. In the 1970s, Fred Lynn won both the American League Rookie of the Year award and the Most Valuable Player award. The 1978 playoff game, against the Yankees was the closest that the Red Sox got to the World Series through the decade.

In the 1980s, the team’s fortunes changed again with exceptional performances by Jim Rice, Dwight Evans, Don Baylor, and future Hall of Famer Wade Boggs.

The Red Sox won the AL East for the first time in 11 seasons. Postseason 1988, Joe Morgan took over as GM and the club won 12 games in a row, in what is referred to till date as ‘Morgan Magic’.

During the 1990s period, the Red Sox had some success, but were unable to return to the caliber of a World Series’ team. Yet the 1996 season had its individual highlights. Roger Clemens tied his major league record. Tony Armas, Jr. and Carl Pavano were the star players in this period.

Red Sox From Year 2002 Till Date

Year 2002, saw Epstein become the youngest general manager in the history of the Major Leagues. The Red Sox faced the St. Louis Cardinals again in the 2004 World Series and went on to win the game, notching its first World Series in 86 years with some terrific playing. Shortly, Jason Varitek was named the team captain.

Theo Epstein became the General Manager. As the GM, Epstein restocked the team for 2007. He negotiated an agreement with Japanese star pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka and Julio Lugo and brought them into the team. In the 2007 World Series, the Red Sox defeated the Colorado Rockies and captured their second World title in four years.

There is no looking back for the Red Sox now. If you have not managed to get Red Sox tickets, go online and contact a broker to deliver the tickets to your doorstep. Be a part of all that live pumping action with Red Sox tickets.

The Red Sox’s chief rival is the New York Yankees.

We built Ticket Luck to provide Boston Red Sox and other tickets with a unique plan. Instead of the usual 20% mark up, we decided to go for a 1-2% mark up. At that margin, we don’t spend anything on advertizing. If you are lucky enough to find this site, you would have saved a tidy sum for yourself. We hope that we will be successful through word of mouth instead of a massive banner ad. marketing budget.
They had to deal with another slow start from David Ortiz, but that has changed as Big Papi has been on fire in May. Ortiz has 8 homers in May compared to 1 he hit all in April. Josh Beckett hasn’t been effective so far this year with an ERA of 7.39. Daisuke Matsuzaka who also started slow and was on the DL is starting to show his true form.

The Red Sox (25-21) have woke up and just in time as the Tampa Rays are starting to run away with the AL East. The Yankees (26-18) are dealing with the injury bug and haven’t played well as of late. The Red Sox beat the Rays 6-1 last night with help from Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz who both homered.

Youkilis, who is batting .400 (12 for 30) with five homers and 12 RBIs over his past nine games, made it 6-0 with a two-run shot in the fourth.

The Red Sox climbed a season-best four games over .500 (25-21) with their third straight win on a difficult road trip that began in Philadelphia.

Boston starter Clay Buchholz (6-3) won his eighth consecutive road start dating to last August. He allowed one run—Carlos Pena’s homer—over six innings.

If the Red Sox can continue to stay hot, it could be a three way race in the AL East, but don’t forget about the Blue Jays.

The Red Sox threw the kitchen sink at Dice K, but it seems, so far, like a bet they should have never made. Matsuzaka who is (2-1) with a bloated 6.35 ERA (before the Yankees game on Monday) has lost the Gyro ball, if he even had one, which we doubted all along.

Dice K was limited to 12 starts last year due to injury which still seems to resonate with his performance this year. He has only pitched 17 innings thus far in 2010, all due to being on the DL. You would think that a player at his age would be more agile.

Dice K at best, has been average so far. The argument can be made that the Red Sox would not have won the 2007 World Series without Matsuzaka, and that’s priceless, but mostly it has seemed like they haven’t gotten their money’s worth. Would you pay $100 million to a player for a World Series win? I doubt if the Red Sox were thinking along these lines, but they still won because of Dice K.

May 11 RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka was brilliant, allowing only three hits and no walks in seven sparkling innings in a 6-1 win over Toronto. Matsuzaka also struck out nine, his highest total since April 1, 2008.

On November 14, the Boston Red Sox won the bidding rights to Matsuzaka with a bid of $51 million, outbidding the Texas Rangers, New York Mets, and New York Yankees. The Red Sox also paid $53 million over 6 years on top of the $51 million.

The Red Sox are losing patience with David Ortiz lack of production. This is the second year in a row that David Ortiz is having a horrid start. The Red Sox can platoon Mike Lowell and Jeremy Hermida.

His 27 strikeouts have come in 73 at-bats. This is not same player that most pitchers feared for so many years. It’s just not David Ortiz style of baseball.

The Red Sox have to get more production out of the DH spot or they will find themselves looking up at the Yankees and Rays all year. They could go after 36 year old Jermaine Dye who is still looking for an employer. Jermaine batted .250 with 27 HRs and 81 RBI last year and could be a better option than Ortiz.

If the Red Sox were to sign Dye, he would not be available for at least a month while he gets into baseball shape.

It sure will seem different in baseball not seeing Ortiz on the Red Sox. I remember when Manny left; it took a little time getting used to.

Red Sox nation embraced Big Papi and will never, ever, lose that love for the player they’ve adored for so many years. It will be a tough day when he is released.

The latest news is that Mike Cameron is headed to DL due to an abdominal tear. Players who have had similar injuries required surgery and being a 37-year-old outfielder, Cameron could miss more than six weeks.

Cameron’s replacement? Outfielder Josh Reddick will be called up from Triple-A Pawtucket to take his place. This is not a good replacement player, and for good reason. Josh can’t hit at this level and after 59 major league at bats he is batting .169. He does have two home runs to his credit.

Along with Cameron, left fielder Jacoby Ellsbury has also been out, missing the last seven games as he recovers from bruised left ribs. He doesn’t appear close to coming back.

The Red Sox will need angels in the outfield in order to keep them in contention in the east. This is just bad luck and the Red Sox will need more help in the outfield with Ellsbury and Cameron on the DL.

What’s next? David Ortiz Retires?
