Carl Crawford a Yankee in 2011?

Carl CrawfordIf the Yankees were to add Carl Crawford in 2011, it would give the Yankees one of the best outfields in the American league and probably all of baseball. The Yankees outfield would look like Curtis Granderson, Carl Crawford and Brett Gardner. The other possible outfielders are Nick Swisher and Jamie Hoffmann for depth.

MLBTradeRumors.com: Rays owner Stuart Sternberg talked to Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times about impending free agent Carl Crawford: “We’re going to do everything we can to make sure he stays here longer.”

There was talk this winter about the Yankees interest in Crawford, but it was premature as he still has another year left on his contract with the Rays. I am sure the Yankees, if the opportunity is there, will sign Crawford in 2011.

The Yankees outfield would be tremendous defensively, but it would also add a lot of speed on the base paths, and I mean a lot! The Yankees would score well over a 1000 runs per year and the big 3, 4 and 5 hitters would have a ton of RBI.

It must be nice being a Yankees fan.

Yes, it is great being a Yankee fans these days. But I also lived through the late ’60′s and early ’70′s when the Yanks were a second tier team and had such legendary Yankees as Pete Ramos (P), Horace Clarke (2B), Stick Michaels (SS), Johnny Ellis (OF) and Ron Blomberg (OF). And of course who could forget the great Fritz Peterson (P) / Mike Kekich (P) wife swapping saga of 1971.

There was a long Dark Stretch when the Yankees were owned by CBS prior to George buying the team. The Mets winning in ’69 made the pain worse.

Still, it’s great to be a Yankees’ fan. Especially during the last fifteen years.

Before the Yanks get too caried away with the possible OF additions, why doesn’t Kevin Long give Brett Gardner a “bottle-bat”.
He would be such a doubles-triples hitter if he could learn to handle that bat the way Nellie Fox did in 1959. Where are you Kevin???
